Tim displays his lack of literacy. On the picnic his cliche seduction spiel ends with, "in the wilderness...and wilderness were paradise anew." The line from the Rubaiyat goes, "A book of verses underneath the bough, a jug of wine, a loaf of bread- and thou beside me singing in the wilderness- oh, wilderness were paradise enow!" Anew means 'once again'; enow means 'enough'.
