not bad but lacks some edge

I am used to series which have a bit of darkness in them, a bit of reality, even when they involve fantastic concepts such as superpowered people. there is a hint of that here with the imprisonment, mind control and abuse of mutants. it feels lighter than the bryan singer films where similar themes of anti-mutant prejudice were pursued. the sets look pretty cool and futuristic, the technology seems alright. the use of buildings and interiors is good. the cgi fx seem a little cheap but do the job; they are not cutting edge by modern standards, and seem a little low res. there are no big fx sequences in the kind which you might expect from other shows. the action is half decent and witty, there was one nice moment featuring a woman fighting two guards where she flipped underneath a bridge and came back up on the other side to carry on attacking them again. the villains is hissworthy, but doesn't give me the creeps in the way that other series have done. it all seems to be being played a little light. the leader of the heroes seemed quite likable, but i thought that the acting on everyone else was a little flat and wooden.
