The last scene of the episode (and of the first series) played out like the last scene of the very first episode. Murphy comes home, puts on Aretha Franklin's "Natural Woman" and sings to it. Eldin joins in halfway and scares her. Murphy's line "You scared the hell out of me!" And many of Eldin's lines were what he said when he first met Murphy at the end of the first episode.
Last episode to feature actor [Robert Pastorelli] as Eldin, the painter. Robert passed away in 2004, many years before the show came back on the air with season 11 in 2018.
The title is from the 1971 song "Never Can Say Goodbye" written by Clifton Davis and recorded by The Jackson 5 and was a big hit. A disco version was recorded in 1974 by Gloria Gaynor.
From 1991 to 1998, Candice Bergen appeared as the main spokesperson for the Sprint long-distance phone company. This explains why the joke Avery made about making Sprint phone calls on the weekends is so funny.
