Warning: Spoilers
Never underestimate quirky Corky. She may be blonde in overly cheery, but now that she's gotten her stripes as a newscaster on FYI, she's ready to go in for the kill when she gets Murphy for an interview on her first primetime special. While Murphy pretends to not be upset that she's not asked, it's obvious that she's offended and ridicules all of Corky's ideas until she is asked. What she doesn't expect is that Corky is going to go for the jugular, serious issues of Murphy's career involving her past with alcohol and especially her 1973 interview with Henry Kissinger. Murphy is found at Phil's later, looking as if she's gone off the wagon even though there's only a bottle of seltzer water in front of her. Corky comes in for the showdown, and discovers Murphy both humiliated and seemingly beaten, and obviously out for revenge. While she is impressed by the chances that Corky took, it's obvious that being the subject of these tactics was not what she was expecting. I had mixed feelings about how Murphy reacts and how Corky takes it, but obviously Murphy is fully aware that after a brief time, she is now literally able to cut the mustard.
