- When storied Det. Lt. Barney Kale retires from the force - for the third time - he decides that he's going to try to solve the one murder case that he has that's still open. Some 10 years before at Lake Juniper, a District Attorney by the name of Dixon was killed but Kale could never get enough evidence to arrest anyone. Dr. Seth Hazlitt had been living in Portland at the time and he and three other men had invested in a resort at the lake. Seth makes his way there knowing that Kale will be present and Jessica soon follows suit. They no sooner arrive when a young man, Gary Roberts, who had checked in the previous day with his wife, is found dead in Kale's cabin. It looks like Kale may have been the target of the shotgun killing but it's left to Jessica to unravel the clues and find the killer.—garykmcd
