- Seth is thrilled that Ben Oliver, an old Army buddy long thought dead, is alive and coming to Cabot Cove. Then PI Lawrence Jarvis turns up, claiming that Ben robbed a jewelry store. Ben does so well at the mechanic job Seth got for him that owner Mason Porter promotes him to boat salesman, to which his nephew objects. Jarvis tells Jessica he will catch Ben, no matter what it takes. When Mason Porter is found dead with $60,000 missing from his company safe, and $10,000 is found in Ben's room, it is up to Jessica to clear him by finding the real killer.—mama.sylvia
- Dr. Seth Hazlett is overjoyed at the news that his old war buddy Ben Oliver is alive and coming to visit him in Cabot Cove. Seth owes Ben his life from their days in the army and manages to get him a job at the local yacht company owned by Mason Porter. A private investigator, Lawrence Jarvis, soon arrives in Cabot Cove and accuses Ben of having robbed a Detroit jewelry store. The Detroit police had questioned and released Ben but Jarvis is convinced of his guilt. Ben does well in his new job and is quickly promoted, despite objections from Porter's nephew who also works at the company. When Porter is killed and a large amount of cash goes missing, Ben is immediately suspect and Jessica is sure he's been set up. Jealousy is at the root of it all.—garykmcd
