- TriviaThe Paramount Television - NBC TV Network comedy series "Mr. Smith" was filmed as a serious single camera format without any live typical sit-com audience participation. Production Designer Gene Callahan was a feature film art director, asked by Paramount Television Production Division to design the television comedy series. Lee Poll had been working with Gene as his set decorator. Between film projects, Gene and Lee agreed to design the pilot presentation, departing upon the pilot's completion. The construction coordinator Jerry Esposito asked Hub Braden to take over the Paramount Television film series after the network picked up the pilot order. Ed Weinberger was the on set producer and director, who always called a production meeting following the end of day filming. Esposito knew that Hub would not be an absent member of the team; Braden always on stage to resolve problems with and between the director, cinema photographer, the puppeteers and the 'alive action' "Mr. Smith" orangutan.
