The welcome and long awaited return of Mindy's father
kevinolzak16 October 2016
"A Mommy for Mindy" marked the long awaited return of Conrad Janis as Mindy's conductor father Fred McConnell, who would remain on the show for the rest of its run. Introduced as his new bride is Shelley Fabares as Cathy McConnell, keeping grandmother Cora out of trouble, despite being in love with the entire string section (Mork: "sax and violins!"). Mork is ecstatic at having a new mother, but a shocked Mindy reminisces about the day her father told her about Mommy's death, how the angels felt bad about her being sick so they came and took her away. Happy that the family home last seen haunted in "A Morkville Horror" is now ready for his return, Fred and Mindy discuss the difficulty of losing his first wife, and the possibilities of a new life with Cathy. Mork plays doctor with Mindy on the couch, and determines that the shock of losing her first mother is preventing her from taking a 'test drive' on a second. All ready to leave for their honeymoon, and Mork wants to talk about an allowance! Every time the series returned to its roots the audience benefited most of all, with lovely Shelley Fabares, from THE DONNA REED SHOW, making two return appearances (this was the first, but hardly the last, glimpse of Mindy's bedroom). The very young Mindy seen in the flashback is played by Missy Francis, today popular financial reporter Melissa Francis, from Fox Business Network.
