- Peter is kidnapped, in a plot against a rocket scientist.
- At a French restaurant dinner at which they are performing, The Monkees listen to a speech by Milo Schniztler, a nuclear scientist and professor. Peter speaks briefly to the professor, but he is hustled away by Marcovitch, ostensibly a doctor at the Remington Clinic but in reality a foreign spy, and his assistant Bruno. Schnitzler slips Peter a note indicating he is being kidnapped and to where he is being taken, and Marcovitch has Bruno kidnap Peter as well.
Peter, though, had given Mike his note beforehand, and when the boys realize Peter is missing, and after getting blown off by Marcovitch, they go to the Remington Clinic, where the nurse at the desk cannot help them. The boys bring a policeman to the French restaurant, but it is now a Chinese restaurant - a successful ruse thanks to the disguised Marcovitch.
Determined to get in to the Clinic, the boys drag Davy, heavily bandaged as though he'd suffered severe injuries, but when the nurse gives him a cough drop, it cures Davy to where he performs "Old Folks At Home" (aka Way Down Upon The Swanee River), to the nonplussed applause of Micky and Mike but which causes the nurse to down several cough drops and react as if to a rocket launch - she thus doesn't notice the boys climb into the clinic via the fire escape, where they enter the rehabilitation gym and have to don bathrobes as though they are patients.
With Schnitzler unconscious and Peter bound to a chair, Marcovitch and Bruno feel confident in smuggling the Professor out of the country; to deal with Peter Bruno draws a gun to shoot Peter but is stopped by Marcovitch, who insists he has a better plan. Peter tries to summon the power of Shazam but all that results is a smashed mirror. Later he is taken to a room with a laser device which Marcovitch uses to erase Peter's memory.
Bruno, meanwhile, attends to the rehab gym and subjects Davy, Micky, and Mike to varied therapy exercises that includes an unplanned rowing expedition by Mike and the boys' galpal Valerie Kairys Venet (much to Bruno's consternation) as well as steam baths. When the therapy session is completed, the boys get the chance to search for Peter, though Mike first has to answer a phone call to their status from TV Guide. Peter, however, wanders into the gym and to the boys' horror doesn't recognize them. He is then shocked back into his memory and leads the boys to Schnitzler's room, but to pull off the rescue the boys trick Micky into subbing for the Professor while they disguise themselves as doctors (complete with a Vincent Van Go Go menu that identifies Micky as Mike's patient). Marcovitch finally exposes them as "the musicians" and the ensuing chase showcases the Monkees' Boyce-Hart punk classic "I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone" as they run Marcovitch and Bruno ragged.
