Marvin Miller: Michael Anthony
Quotes
-
Michael Anthony : [Anthony enters the study to discover Tipton seated in a high-backed chair at his desk, reading a book. Only Tipton's left hand, holding the book, is visible to viewers] You sent for me, sir?
John Beresford Tipton : Mike, I've been tangling with the great mystery.
Michael Anthony : A detective story, sir?
John Beresford Tipton : [Closing the book and laying it on the desk] No, the mystery of love and the complications of human relationships.
Michael Anthony : Those are rather large problems, sir. Any solution in sight?
John Beresford Tipton : I don't know, Mike. Love is not a mathematical equation. Human nature's not something you can weigh and measure. Even when you understand it, there are surprises.
[Tipton hands an envelope to Anthony]
John Beresford Tipton : Here's the name of another new millionaire. Let's see if she can solve at least part of that mystery.
[Anthony accepts the envelope and bows]

[first lines]
Michael Anthony : [to the viewers] My name is Michael Anthony, and during his lifetime, I was executive secretary to John Beresford Tipton, a fabulous multibillionaire. In addition to supporting many organized charities, he frequently gave away a million dollars - one million dollars, tax-free - to someone who had never met him and was, in fact, completely unaware of his existence. This is Silverstone, the fantastic 60,000-acre estate, where I served John Beresford Tipton. One night I was told Mr. Tipton wanted to see me in his study.

Michael Anthony : [Anthony buzzes the doorbell of Margaret Sheeler. She responds] Mrs. Margaret Sheeler?
Maggie : Yes.
Michael Anthony : My name is Michael Anthony. May I come in?
Maggie : What do you want?
Michael Anthony : [Opening his briefcase] I'm here to deliver this
[Withdraws check from briefcase and hands it to Margaret]
Maggie : [Staring at check] I don't understand. A million dollars.
Michael Anthony : I know it seems unusual, but it's quite real. One million dollars, tax-free.
Maggie : But why? Why would anyone want to give this to me?
Michael Anthony : If you'll ask me in, I'll explain.
[Anthony enters]
Maggie : Well?
Michael Anthony : It's yours, and it's good, believe me.
Maggie : Just like that? A million dollars without lifting a finger?
Michael Anthony : [Producing a document from his briefcase] You have to sign this.
Maggie : [Reads the form] And that's all? Just agree never to divulge the source of the money or... or the amount?
Michael Anthony : Except to your husband, if and when you marry. Otherwise the bank will reclaim what money is left and all the tangible assets purchased with it.
[Margaret signs the agreement]

Michael Anthony : [Reviewing a case history, to the viewers] Our next millionaire was Margaret Sheeler. She was a 23-year old widow and was involved in a complicated relationship. But there was no mystery about the fact that she was in love.
