Where's Harlem?

****SP{OILERS*** Mike Hammer, Stacey Keach, has to pass up a hot date he's expecting for dinner to take on this case for this ex-convict just released from the pen Malachi Ezekiel George Washington Crown or "Bubba" for short played by 6 foot 6 250 pound Samm-Art Williams who as "Bubba" said is looking for his long lost "woman" singer Bess Irwin. Bess had disappeared 8 years ago after an armed robbery that "Bubba" was involved in where a security guard was gunned down. Now out of jail and looking to renew his relationship with Bess "Bubba" strong arms Hammer to get him to track her down with only a, what looked like, less then $50.00 retainer! This when the desperate for cash Hammer just had his phone service cut off and is facing eviction for non payment, going back as far as six months, of his rent!

Checking out the last place where Bess worked the "Dixie Well" nightclub in Harlem Hammer & "Bubba" are told that she died about six years ago of a possible drug overdose. Refusing to leave it at that Hammer is again strong armed by "Bubba" to find his "woman" ever if he has to have her exhumed from her grave to do it! It's not long that Hammer gets a number of clues that lead him straight to "Gold Dust Records" executive "Digger" Love, Ernie Hudson. It's "Digger" who just happened to be the accomplice with Big Bad "Bubba" in his armed car robbery that he, who was later murdered himself, may have been the one who gunned down the security guard and unlike "Bubba" go away Scot-free!

****SPOILERS*** Very similar plot to the Raymand Chandler crime classic "Fearwell my Lovely. With both Hammer and "Bubba" after encountering a slew of murders in covering up Bess' new identity find out that she after going underground for three years had re-invented herself as Delia Marvel, Lynn Whitfield, who's married to "Gold Dust Records" CEO the blind as a bat but dead eyed shooting ace "Sweet Billy" Marvel,George Benson. It's when Bess/Delia was finally confronted at the Marvel Mansion by Hammer and "Bubba" about her criminal past as a hooker and armored car robber as well as now, in being responsible for the death of some half dozen people, murderess she completely flipped out winging or gunning down the love sick "Bubba" who worshiped the very ground that she walked on! That before her shocked husband, who was listening in on the conversation in the other room, "Sweet Billy" Marvel put an end to Delia's out of control tirade by blasting her from behind!
