Edward James Olmos in Miami Vice (1984)

Goofs

Heart of Night

Miami Vice

Edit

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Trudy is guarding Mai Ying, she makes small talk about Castillo, mentioning that Castillo got her through her first shoot, when she was a rookie cop. Trudy was already a seasoned detective by the time the series began, and the head of the Vice squad at the time was Lou Rodriguez (Gregory Sierra). Castillo didn't join the show until the 5th episode and was unknown to the other characters at that time. However, it's possible that this refers to the "The Dutch Oven," in which Castillo did help Trudy after a shooting; regardless of her length of career, this may have been her first shooting as a police officer.

Revealing mistakes

When Mai Ying escapes her attackers in the Mercedes Benz, the footage is sped up to make the car appear to be moving faster than it was when filmed.
Michael Lombard is credited for playing the character of "Malcolm Grey." However, in the still that establishes his office, the name is shown as "Malcolm Gray."
Prior to Castillo's first meeting with Malcolm Grey, we see a sign of Grey's company to establish the location. The sign, meant to be a still shot, shakes erratically.

Miscellaneous

When they take the warehouse, Tubbs shoots his shotgun. There is no mussel flash, nor recoil. With that weapon there would have been both big time.

Crew or equipment visible

When Marty crushes Gray's hand in his gun drawer a mic can clearly be seen under Marty's tie.

Character error

Grey tells Sek how much he loves a specific Asian dish. The still showing the exterior of the restaurant has a neon sign that says "chop suey." Chop suey is not Asian but a dish developed in the U.S. No connoisseur of Asian food would dine at such a place.
