- MacMillan's investigation of a suspicious burglary finds him crossing paths (and swords) with a number of his and Sally's friends. Mac, Sally and Sgt. Enright go undercover to a costume ball, where Mac is confident the culprit will strike.
- Soup, an old crony/CI of Mac scares Sally and asks her to have Mac meet him at the "old place." When Mac arrives to meet Soup, a thug knocks out Mac; a note left in Mac's car claims "Big Shoes" followed Soup, and warns that Mac and Sally's house would be robbed that evening. But, Sally in charge of a costume ball, already made plans for them to choose costumes that evening and then, visit the home of Connie and Alex. The McMillans are not robbed but they walk in to find the safe of Connie and Alex wide open, with a very expensive-looking necklace still in the safe. Mac thinks the necklace is fake but it is supposedly authenticated the next day. Gossipy Sally learns many of their friends may be having financial and/or marital troubles. Mac is told that the necklace is real and it may be stolen at the ball. Mac tries to persuade Connie not to wear this necklace to the ball, but she refuses. Sally, as a black cat and Mac (famously) as a hot pink bunny with huge floppy feet, are en route to the ball, but pink bunnies have no pockets nor driver's licenses. Mac is made to "walk the chalk" line by a patrol officer who does not recognize him. At the ball, the lights go out and Connie's necklace is gone. One of their friends is shot. Can a bunny, a cat and a little red devil named Sgt. Charlie Enright solve this caper?—LA-Lawyer
