The Winning Number Is 867
This episode is told mostly in flashback with Ernest Borgnine only making a token appearance. Apparently, he was obligated for another TV show and wasn't available to lead his band of merry pirates in this one. The flashback opens with Parker and the PT 73 crew rescuing two French civilians from a Japanese held island. Parker does well as a combat leader. The two civilians are a planter and his lovely daughter, Andrea Bouchard, played by Claudine Longet. Back at the base, the crew has to come up with a plan to help Christy pay expenses for his new baby, soon to be born back in the states. They come up with the idea for a raffle, selling tickets with the prize winner getting a date with lovely Andrea. She is willing to do it as she seems willing to do anything for Ensign Parker. The problem is keeping Binghamton from finding out about it. Things get complicated when Binghamton wants to take Andrea to dinner on the same night as the raffle date. But Binghamton comes across as a bit of a lady's man when Andrea puts him off for their date, and he immediately comes on to a pretty nurse Lieutenant, played by Sally Mansfield. She is charmed by his attention and agrees to have dinner with him. Old Leadbottom is even able to smoothly light her cigarette without a hitch. Eventually, the drawing is held and the winning number is 867. Then Binghamton appears and it sure looks bad. But who holds that winning number 867?
