Featured review
One of the better episodes from the first season.
This episode begins with McHale being on leave in New Caledonia and Ensign Parker has the command of the PT boat. They have just rescued two French nationals off an island that the Japs had occupied and on their way back to the base. The two people are Mr Gerard and his beautiful young daughter Yvette Gerard.
Later Christy gets a letter from his wife Gloria, that was married earlier in the season, saying they will be expecting a baby. Gloria, who is not seen during the show, is going to name the baby after everyone in McHale's crew because they helped in getting the couple married before she shipped out. The crew thinks of a plan where they can raise money for the new baby. They are going to have a raffle and the winner is going to get a nice dinner and a date with the beautiful French lady, Yvette Gerard. But they have to do one thing, keep the raffle away from Binghamton.
An enjoyable episode that featured the eye-candy of Claudine Longet playing the young Yvette Gerard. Her looks and performance is the cause of this episode taking on an entertaining aspect since the plot would have been dull without her. It is also nice to see that the writer went back to an earlier episode and recruited some of the material into a future show. Another nice part of the show is the acting of Tim Conway. He has been given buffoon type roles so far in the season but this episode brings out a more mature and likable Ensign Parker. An entertaining show.
