Just never gained momentum

Here is an episode that had a nice concept but just did not play as well on the screen. The actors did a nice job with the material but the situations were just not that funny. In fact, the doctor scene may have been funny on paper but was overplayed to the point of becoming stale.

The story was about trying to get a visiting Hollywood singer, Rita Howard, to visit the island. Gruber, the king of plans, comes up with a way that the crew of PT 73 can visit the singer on New Caledonia by saying that Christy is kin to the singer. Binghamton lets the crew go but now he demands that they bring the singer, Rita Howard, back with them as he has already made plans for Admiral Rogers to attend.

McHale comes up with a way to get Rita to make a stop on the island. But it will involve having Ensign Parker to dress up like a medical doctor to distract a young Colonel from stopping the show.

This should have been a more humorous show but for some reason just never gained momentum. For such a interesting plot the story seemed to become stale early in the performance. Everything was working well for the actors, it was the script that was in need of repair.
