The plane the chief commandeers for the air chase is a 1973 Beech 58 Baron 6-seater. It's still in service (2022) based in Kentucky. The plane the bad guys are in is a 1969 Piper 8-seater. It was last based in Utah and was rated airworthy until 2021.
The B-roll of police responding to crime scenes numerous times in the show includes stock footage from earlier in the series, mixing squad cars from 1970-71 in the former green and white color scheme with 1974-75 models in the then-current blue and white colors.
When the car is chasing the plane on the runway, the rearview mirror has been removed. This is done routinely when shots are filmed from the back seat, for obvious reasons. It was also common in Hollywood to remove the headrests and sun visors, depending on the camera shot.
