Meet Prince Sajid Khan
wes-connors10 February 2015
While they wash their shirts in a steam of river water, homeless teenagers Terry (Jay North) and Raji (Sajid Khan) are being watched. The voyeur who wants to join them is well-dressed teenager Prince Ananda (also played by Sajid Khan, in a dual role). His royal highness would like to play with other boys, but must attend an annual ceremonial. Every year on his birthday, the Prince must equal his royal jewels, in weight...

How Kahn, who we see more than half-naked, is described as "five pounds overweight" is a mystery. Perhaps, he grew five pounds during the past year. The Prince decides to run away, and he joins Terry and Raji. Terry tells Raji and the Prince, "You guys could pass for twins!" Yes, they could. After romping in the water, Raji and Ananda decide to exchange places for a day, just like Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper"...

This is the first episode to more prominently feature Khan. The co-stars were actors as young children, North on "Dennis the Menace" and Khan in Mehboob Khan's Indian films. From the first episode, North showed growth as a performer, shedding his "Dennis" persona. Maturing from child to young adult actor is not an easy task. Khan had moments of unease in earlier episodes, but is now confident playing the older "Raji"...

"Will the Real Prince Please Get Lost" is also the first more playful episode; though promoted as a children's show, the content was often more like a typical US TV western. Series photographer Gunter Senftleben, continuing from the "Maya" (1966) film and work at Disney, shoots his usual beautiful Indian footage. Khan's clothing and palace are likewise spectacular. For those interested in a Sajid showcase, this is the episode to see.
