Theora's friend Helen (nicely played by Amanda Hillwood) goes to pick up her vitro baby at a fertility clinic only to discover it's been kidnapped. Edison (the always fine and engaging Matt Frewer) and Theora (the equally terrific Amanda Pays) become determined to expose the truth behind the disappearances of other babies. Meanwhile, the supremely slimy Grossberg (Charles Rocket in peak smooth and slippery form) tries to persuade Bryce (affable Chris Young) to join the Network 66 team. Director Janet Greek, working from a compelling script by Adrian Hein and Chris Ruppenthal, relates the engrossing story at a steady pace and effectively builds a good deal of tension (a lengthy and exciting chase sequence in the basement of the fertility clinic rates as the definite rousing highlight). The central premise about artificial vitro reproduction is certainly interesting and topical while the cloning plot concerning genius babies is truly dark and sinister stuff. Millicent Martin contributes a sturdy performance as deceptively sweet fertility clinic head Cornelia Firth. Jere Burns makes a genuinely creepy appearance as twisted punk psycho Breughel. And Max's no-holds-barred sarcastic quips are absolutely hilarious.
