Two weeks before con man Adam Spangler's appointment with the electric chair, Det. Campbell Buchard convinces Ben and Leanne to shake the eyewitness testimony that put Spangler on death row and find the real killer.

Adam Spangler is a n'er-do-well, convicted of a murder seven years before this episode aired. Matlock was his attorney. Splanger was sentenced to death.

As the episode progresses, Ben and Leanne attempt to track down the real killer. They find him, but he's killed following a police shoot-out. Just as Spangler is about to die, the phone rings -- the original weapon was found, thus sparing Spangler's life.
