- CuriosidadesExtensive sequence for the climax was shot at the Japanese Village and Deer Park in Buena Park, California. Various exhibits and animals can be seen. The park was closed in 1975.
- PifiasDuring the chase through the Japanese Village, the use of stunt double Charlie Picerni for Joe Mannix is evident shortly before Mannix runs across the red arched bridge.

Lt. Art Malcolm: [interrogating Overkill in his office] You're entitled to have an attorney present. You do understand that?
Overkill: I'm... my own attorney.
Paul Sorenson: I don't think he understands. I have an attorney standing by. Good man. I'll call him.
Overkill: [slams his hands over the phone on Art's desk] I DON'T WANT YOUR GOOD MAN! YOU'VE ALREADY DOUBLE-CROSSED ME ONCE!
Paul Sorenson: I'm trying to help you.
Overkill: That why you had those calls traced. I knew what you were doing. The minute I left those phone booths... the police had arrived.
Paul Sorenson: The first words I ever heard you say were "stop me." I thought you meant them.
Overkill: All right. Let's call in a secretary. I want to dictate a full confession.
Lt. Art Malcolm: We aren't quite ready for that yet. There are some details we have to straighten out first. Such as your name.
Overkill: You know who I am.
Paul Sorenson: He means your real name. We can't keep calling you Overkill.
Overkill: Why not?
Lt. Art Malcolm: It's important that we establish your real identity. Now, do you want to tell us your name?
Overkill: It's one of those things I got stuck with. John A. Lambert.
Lt. Art Malcolm: What's your address, John?
Overkill: 1214 Greenlee, Apartment B.
Lt. Art Malcolm: Are you employed?
Overkill: WHAT'S THAT GOT TO DO WITH IT? I KILLED SEVEN PEOPLE! SEVEN PEOPLE!
[pauses]
Overkill: When are you going to get to that, huh?
Joe Mannix: You mean eight, don't you? Including the night watchman last night?
Overkill: Night watchman? I get confused sometimes.
Joe Mannix: Why? Why did you kill him?
Overkill: I don't know. I don't know why I... killed any of those people.
10 Stars.
Richard Levinson, who would go on to write the acclaimed, if not controversial tv-movie THE GUN (1974), all about a series of owners of one gun, penned this episode in conjunction with Donn Mullally. Donn had also done several stories for IRONSIDE.
Mannix joins Lt. Malcolm (deadpan Ward Wood) in the hunt for a clever serial killer who has murdered eight people. The case gets even more strange as the killer may have had a fan(!) -- who added to the death toll. Joe again gets beat up and the plot is wild, but that's what made this show.
To the episode's credit is a dynamic supporting cast. Jay Robinson plays the serial killer called "Overkill". Robinson specialized in over the top characters, such as playing Julius Caesar on BEWITCHED. His claim to fame was playing Caligula in THE ROBE, though it came with a price as he became addicted to drugs. It took Bette Davis, an old friend, to help him get back into films, though he began a second career on tv.
Ultimate bad, bad guy Marc Lawrence returns, playing Ty Webber. He briefly worked as a director at Warner Brothers/ABC tv and did some fine work on 77 SUNSET STRIP, teaming with fellow director and producer William Conrad. Jeff Corey has a neat role here (as Sorenson), who also appeared in the macabre NIGHT GALLERY tv series. That may have lead to this part.
Look for Canadian actor Lawrence Dane, an unforgettable character actor, who went on to play in many cult films, such as the lieutenant in BRIDE OF CHUCKY.
Partly filmed at the famous Japanese Village at Buena Park, CA, close to Disneyland, about 30 miles south of LA. Not bad if you just settle back and roll with the punches. SEASON 4 EPISODE 24 remastered CBS/Paramount dvd box set.
