Peggy says she thinks of her six-year-old son Toby as "more like a Senator Brooke," a reference to Edward Brooke (1919-2015), who in 1966 was the first black man to win a popular election to the United States Senate. Brooke, a Republican from Massachusetts, served two terms in the Senate before being unseated in 1978 by Paul Tsongas.
