- Roger Bard, an Englishman who rents an office in the same complex as Joe Mannix, comes to work one day where he is first confronted by a man named Rhodes, whom he locks in a closet. Bard realizes that his office is being watched by three other men, whom he flees by escaping out a back window. Bard briefly climbs into the window in Mannix' office, where he gives Mannix his keys and asks Mannix to free Rhodes, before driving off with the three men in pursuit. Mannix discovers that Bard's office is an elaborate front, with no files or other paperwork of any kind. Then a tall, beautiful woman named Claudia appears, claiming to be Bard's niece. She tells Mannix that her uncle is hiding in Ensenada, and asks that Mannix accompany her there to aid him.—aldanoli
- Mannix became friendly with Englishman Roger Bard of Bard Enterprises ever since Bard moved into an office across the courtyard from Mannix's office six months ago. Mannix realizes he knows nothing about Bard, and his life becomes even more mysterious to Mannix, when Bard scales down the exterior wall of the complex to Mannix's office window, gives Mannix a set of keys, tells him to let the man out in the locked closet in his office in short order, and drives off in a rush only to be chased by a group of men. After meeting person after person with a British accent each mentioning some association to Bard, all Mannix becomes certain about in relation to Bard is that he was involved in the theft of £2 million of old notes, serial numbers not documented, that were taken out of circulation destined for the incinerator, and is currently hiding out across the border in Ensenada. With these various people after Bard, one his beautiful niece who wants to help him, the man in the closet from Scotland Yard, and the group including Bard's former associate, all Mannix knows in who to help is that he has to find where Bard has hidden the money, which is seemingly what everyone is after.—Huggo
