- Robin Tripp (Richard O'Sullivan) is trying to play the guitar. It sounds good, but it's a gramophone recording: he can't play at all. Chrissy Plummer (Paula Wilcox) tells him that she studied music and that she can play the piano. They go down to their landlords's, George and Mildred Roper (Brian Myrphy & Yootha Joyce) who never use their piano. There, Robin pulls everybody's leg pretending not to know how the play the piano.
George takes his old wrekage of a car to get their year licence helped by Jerry (Roy Kinnear). The car is so damaged that it's not allowed to run on the streets anymore. Jerry knows somebody who can mend the car for 20 quid. Mildred wants a new car, and they finally decide to sell the piano to Robin.
As the piano can't be taken upstairs through the main stairs, Jerry asks a friend to use his crane. They are going to put the piano into the building through a window. Jo (Sally Thomsett) complains that they will have to re-arrange all the decorations, as there is no really space for the piano in their flat.
The piano is lifted, but Jerry can't use the heavy machinery properly. He pulls the wrong gear and the piano ends up smashed on top of George's car, tearing it to pieces as well.
