When Florence empties her semi-automatic handgun firing at Magnum, she continues trying to fire the empty gun and, of course, fails to do so. When a 1911 type handgun fires the last round in its magazine it results in the slide being locked back. It is clearly seen that in this case the slide doesn't lock back.
