Shelley Smith's (Melissa Wainwright) second appearance in the series, she first appeared as Peggy Armbruster in Season 6 "All Thieves On Deck (1986).
The title is based on the popular song "A Boy Named Sue" written by Shel Silverstein and sung by Johnny Cash.
Susan uses the phrase, "Book 'im, Dano." This is the catchphrase of Det. Steve McGarrett of the show Hawaii Five-O (1968). This is one of a number of distortions of reality in the Magnum series. While her character is overtly making a reference to a TV show, during the first season of Magnum, Steve McGarrett was a real person. In one episode their air surveillance includes a car being driven by McGarret and in another T.C. tells a lie over the chopper radio, saying that his passenger (Magnum) is Detective McGarrett.
Another such distortions of reality took place in an earlier story in which characters refer to the The Rockford Files (1974) TV show and mentions a character on the show played by Tom Selleck. Meanwhile, in yet another episode it was planned that Jim Rockford would appear on Magnum.
Both Hawaii Five-O and The Rockford Files ceased production in 1980 - the same year that Magnum, P.I. appeared, which eliminated the possibility of tie-ins.
Based on the orange and white paint scheme, the Inter Island Equipment Rentals truck is obviously a U-Haul truck.
The first and only time the Gay Rainbow Flag has been shown anywhere on the series.
