The original Andromeda Strain is one of my favorite movies, and this is very similar although there are some definite differences. One of the more sad MacGyvers as it shows many animals dying or dead. I won't give away a spoiler, but towards the end it will make you very sad if you love animals.
All in all not one of my even average MacGyver's. There are a few that I just didn't like and this is one and the several that are about environmental issues are the ones I just didn't like mostly.
