- The Phoenix Foundation organizes a US-Russian mission to retrieve the gold from an airplane that crashed in the Arctic in World war II. Pete sends MacGyver with USAF pilot Turk West, general Barenov and Natalia Velskaja. The plane is sound found, the gold was hidden by the dying pilot, who even set booby traps for the team, where greed makes most expedition members hostages of worse.—KGF Vissers
- A US-Soviet team heads up to the Arctic to retrieve Russian gold from a downed WW II plane. But when the gold is missing, MacGyver suspects an American career soldier (Turk West) may be responsible.
At the end of WW2 a joint Russian/American plane carrying gold goes down over the Arctic Circle. Forty-five years later the downed plane is located, and the Phoenix Foundation is asked to help find it and recover the gold.
The only survivor of the crash (navigator Turk West - now a retired Colonel), as well as the commander of the original mission (Russian General Barenov) and his assistant (Natalia) accompany MacGyver on the mission to recover the gold. (Turns out that Mac knows Natalia from an earlier mission 5 years earlier and neither likes nor trusts her.)
There's a blizzard coming in fast so Mac, the General, Natalia and Turk West only have a short time to find the plane and rescue the gold. Things get very complicated when, after the plane is located, none of the crew - nor the gold - are still in the plane. Only one obvious clue is left and one member of the party follows it while Mac figures out more of the pieces of the puzzle.
Lots of twists and turns, and macgyverisms work well ... look for them!
