David Ogden Stiers in M*A*S*H (1972)

Goofs

The Winchester Tapes

M*A*S*H

Edit

Continuity

BJ says he cannot take Officer Of The Day Duty because he is in O.R.. In numerous installments, all four surgeons are seen in O.R. and don't seem to be concerned with "O.D.Duty".
When Winchester and Father Mulchaey are talking in the shower the booth has been rotated 90 degrees the cubicle door usually faces the tent door and the shower heads are facing the back wall,
This MASH begins with Charles recording a letter to his parents, while the scenes are of the camp. One of those scenes is of Klinger in a blue dress holding a parasol. Then the scene moves to the Swamp and the viewer sees Charles recording that letter. But almost immediately after the viewer sees Charles recording his letter, Klinger, who is now wearing fatigues, enters the Swamp to deliver the day's mail. So moments after being in drag, Klinger is able to undress, get into fatigues, get the mail for the Swamp, and get to the Swam (all within three sentences of Charles letter).
This is the only episode where it is mentioned that Winchester has a nephew.

Factual errors

Charles asks his father to call "Senator Griswold" for help in getting him transferred from the 4077th. There was a U.S. Senator named Griswold serving during the Korean War, but he represented Nebraska, not Massachusetts, Charles' home state.

Revealing mistakes

As Potter paints Winchester's portrait, light is passing through the translucent canvas, allowing sharp-eyed viewers to see Potter's open-mouthed version of Winchester before they were meant to.

Miscellaneous

In complaining to Col. Potter about being stationed at the 4077th and trying to coax a transfer, Maj. Winchester contends, "This meatball surgery of yours is causing my skills to deteriorate. They're wasting away!" But by general consensus throughout the series (and according to common sense), combat surgery would only sharpen surgical skills, not deteriorate them. Thus, Winchester would likely return to his practice a far more accomplished surgeon than had he not served at the 4077th. This is not correct. In fact, "skills atrophy" for military surgeons is recognized as one of the primary problems that they face. The MASH surgeons would have only utilized a few basic procedures, and would have had no exposure to oncology, etc., and the vast majority of operations performed in the "real world" and they would essentially have to "re-qualify" after leaving the MASH.

Character error

Charles gives Radar a case of grape Nehi but the liquid inside the bottles and the bottle caps appear to be orange, not grape.
When explaining his fainting symptoms to Hawkeye in the Swamp, Klinger tells Hawkeye that his mother sent him a garlic pie. However, in the episode "The Party" -- which didn't air until the end of Season 7 -- one of the plot points hinges on Klinger having told his mother all along that he was stationed at Fort Dix, in New Jersey, rather than Korea.
