- Even while the camp is bugging out (and back), B.J. promotes the idea of a stateside "reunion" for the families of those at the 4077th.
- BJ has a light bulb after a long session in OR while he, Col. Potter and Radar talk about jam recipes: a reunion for the 4077 families back home. An emergency bug-out depresses BJ; his patient's back was injured in the move and his friends seem indifferent to the reunion. Hawkeye blasts the crew and forces them to write to their loved ones. During a second bug-out, the gang read their mail and learn how excited their families are about the reunion. The 121st Evac calls: Dr. Monroe operated on BJ's patient and his spinal injury will heal. The crew haggles over a date: March 28, and their loved ones shall converge upon Manhattan and The Pierre Hotel. Letters pour in after the party; Radar reads Peg's aloud in the OR. The hugs, tears, kisses and love span the globe, wrapping the 4077 in a happy glow.
- BJ has a light bulb after a long session in OR while he, Col. Potter and Radar talk about jam recipes (BJ receives a letter from home that Peggy tries to cook a batch of jam which burnt and ruined the stove.. So Potter shares Mildred's recipe): a reunion for the 4077 families back home. He thinks they can all get together in New York for a dinner, with enlarged photos of each of their kids, serving in Korea, at the table. An emergency bug-out depresses BJ (the Chinese have broken through the lines and MASH 4077th has been ordered to pull back); his patient's back was injured in the move (he is not showing any leg reflexes and might have damaged his spinal cord) and his friends seem indifferent to the reunion (Hawkeye says his father hasn't left crab-apple cove in 40 yrs & Winchester says his parents are rich, so they can avoid meeting any of the non-rich folks. Mulcahy is supportive, but Houlihan is just engrossed with the packing for the bug-out and doesn't pay any attention. Klinger says his parents wont go to the party as its not their kind of thing as they don't speak English and nobody there speaks Arabic. Potter is supportive of the idea). Hawkeye realizes that his friend cares a lot about his party. Hawkeye blasts the crew and forces them to write to their loved ones about the re-union idea.
3 weeks later Potter gets a call from General Imbre that the front has moved again and the MASH 4077 original location is now back in US occupation. They are ordered to move back. During a second bug-out, the gang read their mail and learn how excited their families are about the reunion. Each and every one of the officers is surprised at their parent's response as they didn't anticipate how much their own parents loved them. The 121st Evac calls: Dr. Monroe operated on BJ's patient and his spinal injury will heal.
The crew haggles over a date: They start on Feb 14th and keeping one weekend at a time till find one where everyone is available. March 28th it is, and their loved ones shall converge upon Manhattan and The Pierre Hotel. Klinger makes them take a photo of everyone under a sign that reads Fort Dix (New Jersey), since he says his mother doesn't know he is in Korea (he doesn't want her to worry each day if he is alive).. The photos are sent to the respective family members with instructions not to talk about Korea in front of Klinger's mom.
Letters pour in after the party; Radar reads Peg's aloud in the OR. The hugs, tears, kisses and love span the globe, wrapping the 4077 in a happy glow. Margaret's parents are getting divorced, but enjoy this weekend for the sake of her daughter. Klinger's mom always knew he was in Korea. Hawkeye's dad is hitting on Mildred and Winchester's parents are so smitten by Radar's family that they invite them to spend a summer with them at cape cod after the war. The event is a massive hit..
