Father Mulcahy's story about the surgeons warming themselves over a patient's open wound was based on something a real Army doctor who served in a Korean War MASH unit told the writers.
A questionnaire was given to the cast members and they wrote their own answers for the interviews. Some of the cast's answers were improvised as some of Clete Roberts's questions were not scripted.
Harry Morgan, who plays Colonel Potter, references the film star Francis X. Bushman during the interview. Years later, Harry Morgan would marry Bushman's granddaughter.
Due to the CBS network's concern over the episode being presented in black and white monochrome, the episode began with the commentator stating, "The following is in black and white."
Loretta Swit does not appear in this episode. The actress was unavailable during filming while appearing on Broadway in "Same Time, Next Year". Her "M*A*S*H" (1972) co-star Alan Alda would later star in the film adaptation of "Same Time, Next Year" (1978).
