Synopsis

  • Klinger accidentally breaks Potter's eyeglasses when he sits on them (he broke the back up pair the week before while hitting a fly), requiring a visit from traveling optometrist Dr. Bud Herzog (Philip Sterling).

The 4077th receives fresh vegetables from a grateful Korean. 4077 had treated Park Sung' (Rummel Mor) grandmother who had pneumonia and now Park Sung was returning the favor by supplying fresh veggies to the mess tent. Bj and Hawkeye find the coleslaw to be edible for the first time and are indebted to Park Sung. Park Sung is a young boy with his whole life ahead of him. Park Sung wants to read horticulture, but his glasses are tied together by shoe string, so Potter and the crew say that they would get him new glasses. Dr Herzog visits the 4077 and takes measurements for Potter and Park Sung. Margaret is very keen to show Herzog around and makes it seem like she has a thing for him (Potter, BJ and Hawkeye take a hint and leave them alone in his office). Turns around Margaret feared that she needed glasses due to her blurry vision (and she wanted a private check-up with Herzog), it only turns out to be an eye allergy.

Wounded come into 4077 and Park Sung is amongst them as his village was mortared. Park Sung does not feel lucky to be alive. He is tired since every time he moves and creates a new life, soldiers from China and North Korea destroy everything he has built. He is now separated from his grandparents as they moved south to escape the fighting and he stayed to protect the land. Hawkeye and BJ offer him shelter in the swamp till he can figure out what to do next. Winchester agrees when Park offers to be houseboy for the Swamp. Potter helps Park Sung with his horticulture studies. Park Sung helps set up a veggie garden outside the swamp. Herzog checks up on Houlihan and praises her looks and energy. They go out for a drink at the O club. There BJ and Hawkeye ask her if anything is going on between her and Herzog, which she refuses to answer to keep the guys nothing. Herzog takes this as an invitation from Houlihan.. Herzog makes a pass at Margaret in her tent, but she tries to be strictly professional.

Potter questions the authenticity of an upbeat letter from Radar. Radar tells in his letter (which Potter reads to the whole crew), that he is now a big shot farmer in Ottumwa, Iowa. he is growing wheat and corn and expects to earn a pretty penny. He wishes the war to be over, so everyone can return to their loved ones. Potter swells with tears while reading the letter. Potter places a call to Ottumwa Iowa to say hello. He finds from his mother that Radar was exaggerating in his letter. The crops are bad, they cant afford any help, and Radar works at a local grocery store to help pay off the mortgage. The gang finds a perfect solution by sponsoring Park Sung to travel to the states and help Radar on his farm.
