Classic Mid-series Episode
mideleon28 August 2013
This episode from the early BJ era, is one of my favorites. No weighty storyline. No characters facing a moral dilemma. It's just a straight up comedy episode with lots of verbal humor and less of the broad comedy that was common in the Trapper John era.

The simple plot is that the camp has been grumpy and Potter hopes that movie night in the mess tent watching "My Darling Clementine" will cheer their spirits. Unfortunately, the film keeps breaking, so they entertain themselves by singing songs and doing impressions. It's really a charming episode and a nice change of pace from the more serious or heavily plotted story lines. Though the episodes from this era were generally pretty light, this particular one is a far cry from the dreary and preachy episodes that would be a staple of the series' final years.

A Night to Remember, Clementine
Hitchcoc21 March 2015
Everyone is edgy. Boredom has led to finding tasks for the gang and they aren't happy with their work. Mulcahy picks up the mail and announces to Potter that he has brought one the old man's favorite movies. He keeps it a secret from the camp. After supper he announces that it is the famous Wyatt Earp movie "My Darling Clementine" with Henry Fonda and a host of character actors. The age and condition of the film cause numerous breakdowns. While they are waiting for repairs, they sing and joke and have a great time. It's just a charming way to show the love and brotherhood (sisterhood, too) that exists here. Well done.

Enjoyable!

Warning: Spoilers
It's been a tough week but Potter has a movie night planned .

When the movie keeps breaking they start entertaining themselves with sing alongs , movie star impressions and father Mulcahy impressions! At one point they start acting out along with the movie!

One of my favorite parts is early on the episode Radar doesn't want to eat and is trying to throw it out. Burns ( who's in charge of garbage objects) Potter comes along and has a very funny exchange with Frank and of course Potter wins! Radar gets some much needed back up from Col Potter and Frank is left holding the tray .

One of the easiest episodes to watch. Everyone gets something it seem even the nurses that don't always get much to say or do.

An episode I can watch over and over again

All credit to the way the writers integrated My Darling Clementine into this episode, with the singing talents of the cast on display. Loretta Swit can sing! I love the Father Mulcahy impersonations! Absolutely hilarious and sad was Frank bursting out with his improvised lyrics for Gee Ma, I wanna go home. The denouement where the cast got immersed in the shootout scene in My Darling Clementine is one of the best scenes ever in M*A*S*H.

One thing I've always wondered. The four nurses who stayed behind to watch the film...did they regret not going away for their trip to hang out with pilots? Maybe I'm overthinking it I guess.

My Darling Clementine Sing Along
DKosty1236 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Th is is an enjoyable episode, but it is one of the weaker efforts as well. Col. Potter has a special movie for the unit, a total surprise. Burns torques off Holihan, which is nothing new since her engagement to Donald Penobscott. (Funny but "That Girls " (Marlo Thomas) boyfriend was named Donald too).

The whole unit is cranky at the beginning of the episode. Then when the film breaks during the movie show, they start singing and dancing around like a bunch of people on steroids. There are moments when there are funny lines.

What is not normal is a rather large error from a series that usually researched their material before putting it into the script. In this case, Radar does a John Wayne imitation of a movie (Mclintock) that was made in the 1960's. Korea was in the 1950's. As I did not get to watch a lot of 1977 stuff when it first aired (it was my bowling night), I was surprised at this gaffe.

This is not an episode to avoid as it does have some truly funny moments. It is just not quite as high a standard as other episodes. An episode of a classic that misses a bit is better than an episode of My Mother The Car, to be sure.
