- The officers, enlisted and crew bellyache once too often about the conditions at the 4077 (they all complain about the same movies being shown 12 times in a month) (The recurring nightmare with popcorn). Potter condemns Hawkeye and BJ to act as 'Morale Officers' after a childish treatment of "Tales of Manhattan" (a 1942 classic and one of Mildred's favorite films). Hawkeye and BJ say that they deserve some variety in entertainment. They demand new movies. Potter wants everybody smiling and doing huzzahs. He expects BJ and Hawkeye to provide the services that the camp so direly needs. Klinger wants a 2 week trip to Toledo (Morale officers are authorized to grant the same). Klinger says being a clerk brings a lot of pressure and he needs sometime off. They reject the request and ask Klinger to install suggestion boxes and order some new and better movies. Margaret wants cosmetics for her nurses. The morale officers are in trouble.
Suggestion include burning down the camp, or holding an annual naked day. Nobody showed up to their Simon Says competition. There are no new movies and no cosmetics. People are starting to lose patience. The people even decide to kill the cook, who is himself eating at Rosie's.
Charles performs grueling surgery, certain that the patient, Private David Sheridan (James Stephens) will be forever grateful to him for saving his leg. Sheridan was a airtight candidate for amputation, and it was only WInchester's skill that saved the limb. Instead, David Sheridan, who also sustained permanent nerve damage to three fingers of his right hand, is closer to suicidal than thankful. He is not concerned about his leg. A gifted concert pianist with training from Julliard, Sheridan believes his hand is his life so his life is now futile. Nothing Winchester can say is helping. Winchester confides to Mulcahy that other doctors in the camp are able to provide more comfort to the soul than him. He doesn't have any magic words to help his patients.
Knowing and recognizing his own limitations with people, can his deep love of music give Charles the right words to reach David Sheridan and help him to save his life? Charles gets hold of some pieces composed for the left hand pianist and talks to David. He convinces David that the gift is not in his hands, but in his life. He asks David to pick up the left handed piano pieces to further his love of art & music. David tries it, and in doing so re-discovers his passion for music.
As things are about to get out of control, Heckle and Jeckle promise the gang a big gala dinner party; Klinger must deliver. The big idea is to have a sea food picnic, Only kink is that Klinger needs to drive to Seoul to pick up the seafood. He makes Hawkeye sign his 3 day pass for this. When Klinger is late, everyone thinks he has bugged out (he took his footlocker with him). But Klinger shows up with live crabs and a footlocker full of sand to imitate the beach.
