- A former star college football player suffers a severe leg injury in combat and must deal with the consequences, and Major Burns goes behind Colonel Potter's back to set up a boxing match between Klinger and Zale.
- As heroes battle and are wounded in the field, 8063 soldiers fight 4077 soldiers like Zale and Kornhaus at Rosie's Bar; Klinger hides under a table so his dress will not be torn. Radar is excited: Sgt. Billy Tyler, All-American football running back from Iowa, who tied for the Big 10 rushing record, is brought into O.R. with a leg wound. Billy tells Hawkeye if he cannot save his leg, do not save him. To impress Hotlips, Frank orders an illegal fight between Klinger and Zale. Radar feels terrible about Billy: he asks Radar for pills so he can "check out" permanently. Billy curses at Hawkeye for amputating his leg and the surgeon, for once, cannot even talk to his patient. If the first string is unable to reach the angry young football hero, Radar, the second string, has a different rule book and unique set of plays. Will Klinger and Zale beat up each other or a more deserving party? Is it possible to change the entire concept of how you think about yourself, your future and your life?—LA-Lawyer
- As heroes battle and are wounded in the field, 8063 soldiers fight 4077 soldiers like Zale and Kornhaus at Rosie's Bar; Klinger hides under a table so his dress will not be torn. Zale is angry at Klinger that he didn't step to save his buddies at the bar. Klinger is unkind to Zale in return. They both start fighting back at the 4077th as well. Radar is excited: Sgt. Billy Tyler (Henry Brown), All-American football running back from Iowa, who tied for the Big 10 rushing record, is brought into O.R. with a leg wound. Billy was wounded at the front and brought to a battalion aid station. the leg was wounded pretty bad and from there Billy was transported by chopper to the 4077th MASH, as he cant take an ambulance ride. Billy tells Hawkeye (just before the operation) if he cannot save his leg, do not save him. BJ and Hawk operate, but cant save the leg as the artery is too busted. Hawkeye has the unfortunate job of informing Billy when he wakes up.
Frank treats the wounded from Rosie's bar and tells Margaret that Zale now takes orders from him. Klinger and Zale are still fighting when they sit down for lunch in the mess tent. Houlihan has to break them off, when Frank fails to. Houlihan wants to know what Frank is going to do to punish Zale and Klinger. To impress Hotlips, Frank orders an illegal fight between Klinger and Zale (as Houlihan says that Donald would have made them fight it out). The fight is against regulations, and Frank says he is not afraid of Potter finding it out. Hawkeye and BJ find out about what Frank had done. Hawkeye tries to get Klinger and Zale to patch by exposing what Frank is upto (he is getting both of them to fight, so he can look like a man in front of Houlihan), but the duo are not ready to reconcile. But in the actual fight, Zale and Klinger work together to punch Frank and knock him out. Frank brings Zale and Klinger to Potter for court martial, but decides to drop charges when Klinger and Zale gang upto report Frank for breaking violations.
Billy curses at Hawkeye for amputating his leg and the surgeon, for once, cannot even talk to his patient. Billy is inconsolable. Radar feels terrible about Billy (he was a great football player and now what would he possibly do after being discharged from the army): he asks Radar for pills so he can "check out" permanently. Hawkeye is overcome with guilt, but BJ assures him that he did everything possible to save the leg. If the first string is unable to reach the angry young football hero (Hawkeye tells Billy that there is more to life than football, and that Billy is still a functioning human being, but he wont agree), Radar, the second string, has a different rule book and unique set of plays (Radar reminds Billy of a particular football game, where the opposite team had a tight defense. Billy had to work hard to find a way through to score. It was tough, but Billy found a way). Billy decides to give life another try by living one day at a time.
