- The camp prepares for a visit from General Douglas MacArthur, but Klinger interrupts the proceedings with his attempts to earn a Section 8 discharge.
- MacArthur is coming, MacArthur is coming (this is surprising since Mark W. Clark took over 15 episodes ago at the end of "O.R.") Everyone shows his or her usual level of excitement and/or contempt. Blake is ordered to make certain Klinger stays de-frocked. Looking for kudos back home (and higher fees on tonsillectomies) Blake orders all troops to "de-shambilize" the 4077. The entire camp is white-washed, festooned in red, white and blue, and parade viewing stands proudly adorn the compound. A brief inspection of Mac's VIP quarters is more than enough for Hotlips to achieve "lift off" (even with Ferret Face.) At the rehearsal, Radar is a corn-cob smoking stand-in for the man of the hour. But, there are excruciating SNAFUs lurking beneath the usual ones labeled "Situations Normal." Even Radar drops his pipe. But, Klinger burns. Whether for Mac or just for a Section 8: Klinger burns for America!—LA-Lawyer
- MacArthur is coming, MacArthur is coming (Radar gets the message on the radio and delivers it to Henry while he is still operating in the OR. Henry leaves surgery to attend to this phone call). Everyone shows his or her usual level of excitement and/or contempt. Mac chose MASH 4077 since it had the best war performance record of all MASH units in Korea. This is the biggest things that happened to Henry in his medical career. Every move that Big Mac makes is news.
Col Whiteman (Graham Jarvis) comes to 4077 to brief Henry on the preparations. Blake is ordered to make certain Klinger stays de-frocked (Klinger greeted Whiteman at the outer sentry post before he even enters the 4077th compound). Henry expects the news to hit the papers back home of the General inspecting a local doctor in Korea (and higher fees on tonsillectomies (his price goes up from $50 to $75)). Whiteman wants Henry to organize a demo of MASH's work and Frank volunteers for the operation. Whiteman also lays down the min-by-min schedule of the General, saying that the General will stay for 2 hrs and 10 mins at the unit and have lunch with the troops. Lunch will finish precisely when the General lights his pipe. He asks the officers not to address the general unless he addresses them first. Even then, they are to recite their full name and rank and only address the General as Yes/No general MacArthur.
Blake orders all troops to "de-shambilize" the 4077. Duty rosters are posted on the bulletin board and no changes entertained. All leaves are canceled. The entire camp is white-washed, festooned in red, white and blue, and parade viewing stands proudly adorn the compound. Frank starts burning all books in the camp, which are revolutionary in nature. He even burns Robinson Crusoe as everybody runs around half naked. Hawkeye bans Frank from burning any more books. Frank threatens to clean up the swamp and Hawkeye says he will personally kill Frank if he touches even one dirty sock. The entry to the 4077th has a large signboard, declaring "Best care anywhere" and welcoming Gen Douglas MacArthur.
A brief inspection of Mac's VIP quarters is more than enough for Hotlips to achieve "lift off" (even with Ferret Face), she has sex with Frank in the VIP tent which is all decked up for MacArthur's visit. At the rehearsal, Radar is a corn-cob smoking stand-in for the man of the hour. Klinger is ordered to stay away from the day's proceedings. Frank has ordered all orderlies to paint the rocks in the compound, so there are none to assist Hawkeye and Trapper in surgery.
But, there are excruciating SNAFUs lurking beneath the usual ones labeled "Situations Normal." MacArthur barely even glances at the 4077 as he passes through the compound in his convoy. Radar is flabbergasted and drops his pipe. Klinger is noticed by MacArthur as standing just outside camp in a Statue of Liberty costume, with a burning flame.
