- A visiting Congressional aide accuses Margaret of being a Communist sympathizer and it could ruin her career. This dovetails with Klinger entering the Stars & Stripes photo contest.
- A congressional aide named Theodore Williamson, who works for a congressman named Lurie, arrives at the 4077 on what he claims is a fact finding mission. While there, he asks several rather personal questions about the staff. Hawkeye and BJ then become very concerned that Williamson is gathering info as a way to cut funding to the unit. However, he later reveals that the reason for his visit is to investigate one particular member; Major Margaret Houlihan, who, while in college was friendly several individuals whom the government feels are subversive. Now Margaret must face a very difficult choice, testify against her old classmates or not testify and be labeled a communist sympathizer, not only endangering her career but bringing shame to her father. Also, Klinger is bitten by the photography bug and tries to get candid shots of the staff so he can win a contest.—Brian Washington <Sargebri@att.net>
- Aide to Congressman Daniel Lurie, R. Theodore Williamson, claims his boss sent him to bolster the war effort by talking to 4077 staff and observing their inner workings. "Stars and Stripes" has a photo contest: first prize is $500.00, two weeks in Tokyo and a date with Marilyn Maxwell; Klinger is snapping everyone in sight. Williamson starts with Margaret and is all sweetness and light; Father Mulcahy senses a sinister purpose in his visit. And in Col. Potter's office, Williamson calls Major Margaret Houlihan a Communist sympathizer. This is based on ironclad innuendo; during nursing school, she dated Walter Philip Crichton, allegedly a member of the Communist Party. Now, if Margaret does not provide information about Wally and names of friends they used to have, Congress will subpoena her to the McCarthy Hour, effectively ruining her career and her future. Hawkeye and BJ are worried when Margaret talks about resigning her commission. These college friends are dear to her and she will not name them; nor will she put her father through the disgrace of public accusation. Hawkeye, BJ and Chuckles visit the O Club; they give Margaret the "left handed" defense, implying that "Hotlips" takes care of business. Williamson beats an almost immediate path to her tent door. But old habits die hard... Margaret always had a thing for hiding men in her tent closet.—LA-Lawyer
- Radar is still on R&R and the mail is not reaching the 4077th. Aide to Congressman Daniel Lurie, R. Theodore Williamson (Lawrence Pressman), claims his boss sent him to bolster the war effort by talking to 4077 staff and observing their inner workings. Daniel is up for re-election and Potter knows that Williamson's trip is a PR stunt to win voters back home. Williamson had sent a letter to Potter announcing his arrival, but it never reached him. "Stars and Stripes" has a photo contest: first prize is $500.00, two weeks in Tokyo and a date with Marilyn Maxwell; Klinger is snapping everyone in sight.
Williamson starts with Margaret and is all sweetness and light. Houlihan is also smitten with a man so close to a Congressman; Houlihan says that BJ and Hawkeye are little short on military discipline (show up for roll call in their bathrobes, still in their tent, ran her underwear up a flagpole.. but its an honor to serve with these men), but the unit is the best serving in all of Korea. Klinger tries to get Williamson's attention with his dresses, but Williamson clarifies that a COngressman cannot grant Section 8s. Williamson notices Hawkeye treating Chinese soldiers in Post Op and makes a note of it. Williamson wants to know if there are any malcontents in the unit. Hawkeye replies that they are 2 miles from the front and everyone hates being there.
Father Mulcahy senses a sinister purpose in his visit (he kept prodding Mulcahy about the people and wanted him to squeal dirt on his colleagues). The gang think Williamson is looking for areas for budget cuts. Williamson gives Houlihan 2 days to make up her mind, or be ready to face the consequences.
Hawkeye and BJ are worried when Margaret talks about resigning her commission. These college friends are dear to her and she will not name them; nor will she put her father through the disgrace of public accusation (he was very proud when she made Major in the army). Hawkeye, BJ and Chuckles visit the O Club; they tell Williamson about Margaret's the "left handed" defense, implying that "Hotlips" takes care of business.
Williamson beats an almost immediate path to her tent door. But old habits die hard... Margaret always had a thing for hiding men in her tent closet. Williamson kissed Margaret and Klinger jumps out of her closet and takes a pic as evidence that he cheated on his wife. The gang walks in to blackmail Williamson. He backs off. A few weeks later the gang learns from the papers that Daniel was having an affair with Williamson's wife.
