You can't be this rotten

***SPOILERS*** Leonard Nimoy who played the unemotional and computer like, in analyzing things, Mister Spock on "Star Trek" plays the low life mad dog killer Robert Nash in this "M Squad" episode. Nash who after robing a grocery store in a gun fight guns down policeman John W. Wilbert as his partner Officer George Maxwell, Ed Kemmer, tries to help him by stopping the bleeding. The fact that Maxwell put the life of his partner above capturing the fleeing Nash got him in trouble with his boss Cap. Grey,Paul Newlan, but also the newspapers in chickening out under fire. It was the two women load mouth store owner Mrs. Williams, Kathryn Card, and pesky reporter looking for a scoop Sheila McAfee, Ruta Lee, who made a federal case out of this tragedy in blaming Maxwell of not doing his job in arresting Nash.

It's Let. Det. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin, who feels that Maxwell, a good friend of his, is innocent of all charges but when it came out that both Nash and Maxwell knew each other that gave Ballinger second thoughts. With Nash still on the loose Maxwell is suspected of working together with him in knocking off a number of stores in the neighborhood. The fact that Maxwell who had arrested, for car theft, Nash and sent Nash up the river for two years didn't make any points since it was Maxwell who got him a job as a car mechanic, so he can possibly rob cars again?, after he served his time in prison.

*****SPOILERS**** For all his troubles in trying to get Nash to be a law abiding citizen he screwed Officer Maxwell in not only being in trouble, in looking the other way to save his partner , in letting him get away for armed robbery & murder but now having kidnapped his wife, Addison Richards, and infant daughter and holding them hostage in the garage where he works at. Nash plans on using them as human shield to make his getaway when surrounded by the police! Maxwell released from police custody tried to get Nash to give himself up and release his wife & daughter only to get shot, not fatally, by him. But it was Let. Det. Ballinger hiding on the roof of the garage who put an end to Nash's attempts to gain his freedom as well as, just for fun, murdering Maxwell's wife to get even with him in having him put away for two years in prison on a car theft conviction.
