***SPOILERS*** Much like the proposed hit on NY State Special Prosecutor Thomas E. Dewy back in the 1930's by the deranged homicidal manic Dutch Schultz this M-Squad episode has a likewise derange lunatic Al "Bugsy" Page, William Phipps, plan to knock off Cook County Special Prosecutor Ralph Mattson, Robert Clarke, for putting the heat on his both number and loan shark rackets. Bugsy being voted down by the syndicate in his attempted assignation of Mattson decides to go on his own in knocking him off. Hiring an out of town, from Canada, hit-man Jack "Frenchie" Dulac, Eddie Foster, to do the job ends in disaster for Busgy with Frenchie getting blaster by Let. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin, before he could get a shot off!
Not to be outdone in his abject stupidity Bugsy in retaliation to the syndicate not going along with his insane plan now plans to exposed their criminal operations to the local police & FBI! A marked man for death on both sides of the law, the syndicate & police, Bugsy gets his not too bright out of town, from Peoria Ill, girlfriend Ava Lane, Judy Bamber, involved in his flight from the law and syndicate only to have her worked over and forced to reveal where he's hiding to both the police and syndicate who are out to get him.
***SPOILERS*** It doesn't take long for Let. Ballinger and his M-Squad cops to get their hands on Bugsy before he can escape, by jumping out of his hotel window, and have him put behind bars for at least 15 years. That was a lot better then what the syndicate would have done to him if they ever got their hands on Busy first. Also unlike the "Dutchman" Busy didn't end up shot to death with his head in a bowel of spaghetti at a Newark Restaurant like he did back in 1935!
