Synopsis

  • "Marooned" begins with the arrival of a familiar passenger - Isaac Washington, whose planned ski vacation falls apart when there is no snow. So he changes his plans and boards the Princess as a passenger. The official passengers include henpecked Everett Buell and his sharp-tongued wife Maureen; spoiled rich girl Kiki Atwood, who was dumped shortly before her wedding; soap opera star Mike Adler; Isaac's foxy potential love interest Mara Carroll; "mature lady" Mrs. Worth; and Jeannie Carter, an orphan who grew to adulthood. Also on board is Deputy Captain Cunningham, a bumbler who is doing an internship under Captain Stubing en route to commanding his own ship. A radio operator receives a telex about an approaching hurricane, and gives it to Deputy Captain Cunningham. Before Cunningham can give it to Stubing, he is interrupted by Mrs. Worth, who is searching for her cabin. Cunningham uses the telex as scrap paper to draw a crude map of the ship, which he gives to Mrs. Worth; consequently Captain Stubing doesn't see it - at first. When the ship docks in port, Stubing entrusts temporary command to Cunningham, then takes Gopher, Doc, Julie, the Buell's, Kiki, and Mrs. Worth for a side trip. As Stubing leads the group through the jungle, their launch is stolen by David P. Crothers, a hermit who kidnaps them in hopes that they will give him a surprise birthday party, and locks them inside a hut. And then the hurricane hits...
