Hans Conried (Sagramonte) was also the voice of Snidely Whiplash in The Bullwinkle Show (1959). June Foray (voice of Gundemar the beast) was the voice of Nell Fenwick, the frequent target of Whiplash's evil deeds.
Sagramonte, shocked that Smith speaks to him, says, " Swounds, Sir Knight! Doth never discipline thy villains?" In this case "villain" does not refer to Smith's many crimes and offenses; in pre-Elizabethan English, a villain was a peasant farmer, a low class commoner.
The Robot says "I can take no action against Sagramonte of Altair, since the prime directive forbids me to harm human beings." This is in accordance with the first of Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics: "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm."
The title refers to The Questing Beast, a monster from Arthurian legend, the subject of quests by knights.
When Sagramonte wipes his mouth on his sleeve, you can hear the sound of photon torpedoes from Star Trek (1966) firing.
