He sent a bit of it to Wichita to be analyzed and now Jason Trask and his crew of Bureau 39 investigators are on their way to his farm. Wayne brings the rest of the glowing green rock to Jonathan for safe keeping. He figures that it might have something to do with Clark's arrival in the vicinity. To disguise the nature of the covert activity, Trask portrays the incident as an EPA clean-up of pesticides. Clark hears of these developments and talks Perry into sending Lois with him to check it out. It could prove to be another Love Canal story. As Clark and Lois head to Smallville, she not very excited about spending time in what amounts to a hick-town in her opinion. Clark insists she will have a great time because it is Corn Fest time. Lois and Clark are met by Carol Sherman, the woman who claims to be the EPA agent in charge of the investigation. She sends them packing with excuses that don't sit well with Lois. She, herself, has been kept in the dark and, upon seeing Wayne being subjected to brutal interrogations, demands to know what is the real meaning of the work. That night, as Lois and Clark spend the evening with his parents, Jonathan takes Clark to the barn and shows him the glowing green rock that Wayne had brought to him. Clark immediately begins to suffer ill effects and collapses on the ground. Jonathan, with Martha's help, get him inside. Clark declares he is feeling better, but his superpowers have vanished. He is like other humans. Lois finds that the EPA does not list Smallville as a clean-up site. She and Clark sneak up through the woods to spy on the actual goings on. They are captured by camouflaged soldiers and taken to Trask. Trask had released Wayne a bit earlier, having not broken him down. His men follow Wayne and notice he is headed toward the Kent Farm. Trask throws Clark in the van and heads that way. He gains access to the kryptonite rock and is fairly confident it will be lethal for Superman. He demands Clark tell him how to find Superman. Clark admits that he is actually Superman. Trask sets a gasoline trail to the barn where he has Clark's parents and Wayne tied up. Luckily, Jimmy's new supersonic watch resets Clark's powers in time and he escapes to save them. The Sheriff shoots Trask as he is about to do the same to Clark.—Garon Smith
