Now that Adam can see, he wants to take his law exam. Unfortunately after the first day of the 3-day exam, he is waiting in the rain on the train to come to the depot and he is mugged. His friend takes care of him but he misses the end of the exam and has to take it later. He passes. Mary worries that he won't be the same person now that he's a sighted-lawyer, but she deals with her worries.
