- Isaiah Edwards: Doc ain't slept a wink. I never seen a man work so hard.
- [Harriet scoffs]
- Isaiah Edwards: 'Course some folks don't care if he kills himself trying to save that child.
- Mrs. Oleson: Whatever caused him to do that, Mr. Edwards, will never make up for what he didn't do.
- Nelson "Nels" Oleson: I'll get your order.
- Isaiah Edwards: [About Harriet] Like talking to a Chinese pack mule.
- Mrs. Oleson: What did you say?
- Isaiah Edwards: You heard me.
- Mrs. Oleson: You're rude.
- Isaiah Edwards: You're ugly.
- Mrs. Oleson: [About the mule Doc Baker treated] And he's got a jackass for a patient.
- Isaiah Edwards: That's right. He's got you, and the mule too.
- Mrs. Oleson: Oh shut up, you old reprobate!
- Isaiah Edwards: [Laughs] And you're still ugly!
- Mrs. Oleson: Shut up!
- Almanzo James Wilder: Now, you listen to me. Rose is my child too, and I'm not taking any chances with her life just because of your hatred for Doc Baker!
- Isaiah Edwards: This here calls for a celebration. Everybody into the restaurant! Everything's on Mrs. Oleson!
- Almanzo James Wilder: Well, you never minded being called Beth.
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: Well, that's different.
- Almanzo James Wilder: Why?
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: Well, because only you called me that.
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: Dr. Baker, I won't have you present at the burial of our child.
- Almanzo James Wilder: Beth, please!
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: No. Not when our baby is dead because of him.
- Dr. Hiram Baker: Laura!
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: Go away. You're not wanted here.
- Dr. Hiram Baker: Laura, we have a chance to cure Rose, but I want you to know the seriousness of this illness. We can only do what I know to do. Can you accept that?
- Laura Ingalls Wilder: I'll have to, but I want you to know that no matter what, nothing will change the way I feel about what happened to my baby boy. Nothing.
- Dr. Hiram Baker: [pauses] So be it. My only concern now is to cure Rose.
- Mrs. Oleson: [to Nels about Doc Baker] That man should thank his stars that he is walking around free, and not behind bars where he belongs. Why, he as much as murdered Laura's child!
- Nelson "Nels" Oleson: That's not true!
- Mrs. Oleson: It is true! And Laura herself believes it!
- Nelson "Nels" Oleson: Laura is a disturbed person! A person in her condition has got to have somebody to blame. Time will bring her around, but you have no reason to...
- Mrs. Oleson: You listen to me, Nels Oleson and you listen with both of your ears! The town has turned against Doc Baker.
- Nelson "Nels" Oleson: With no small thanks to you, I'm sure.
- Mrs. Oleson: Because he's incompetent, that's why! Can't you get it through your head? I will never and our children will never go into his office ever again because if we do, that's irresponsible!
- [storms out]
