- Earp receives word that Fred Colby has been released from prison. Earp has no knowledge of him so he fills in the blanks with info from Hal, others and old city records. Fred may be out for revenge for the killing of his brother Larry.
- Earp receives a letter from Leavenworth prison that Fred Colby has been released fro prison and headed to Dodge City. Hal tells Earp that Fred was sent to prison four years ago but Hal believed him to be innocent. Fred's brother Larry was killed a couple of years back but the killer was never found. Larry had a half interest in Jake Antrim's Alamo Saloon and the rumor was he was to marry Jake's daughter Joanne. Earp visits Jake who is less than friendly and unhappy Fred is out. That night as Fred rides into town someone shoots at him while talking to Earp. After reading the old city records and talking to Hal more he learns Larry goaded Old Mathew's son into a gunfight. Old Mathew is severely disabled but a good friend of Earp. When Fred stops in to talk to Jake, Joanne pulls an empty gun on him which Earp takes away. Fred is later confronted by Burleigh who tells Fred Larry had a gang of six and was crooked which is news to Fred. Earp decides to confront Old Mathew who pulls a gun but confesses he killed Larry in self-defense. Fred finally realizes his brother was an outlaw, gives up his half of the saloon, but is asked to stay in Dodge City.—Anonymous
- Fred Colby returns to Dodge City to take revenge on the person who killed his brother. Marshall Earp hears the rumor that Colby is coming to town. Earp asks Mr. Antrim - the owner of one of the saloons in town -- and his daughter not to try to kill Fred Colby before Fred kills one of them. When Fred comes to town, someone shoots at Fred while he is talking to Mr. Earp, but doesn't hit Colby, merely shoots a hole in his hat. Colby visits Mr. Antrim and asks him if Antrim killed Colby's brother. Antrim says he didn't, but Colby's brother did have a partnership areement with Fred's brother, and offers Fred money to pay for his brother's share of the partnership. Colby begins to find out that his brother was a bully and a crook, and finds out that his brother forced Mr. Antrim into making him a partner. Wyatt Earp talks to some other townsfolk, and gets a lead on who might have shot Colby's brother, an older man. When Earp goes to visit the old man, he has a confrontation when the old man pulls a shotgun on Earp. Earp arrests the old man for killing Colby's brother, and takes him back to town to the jail. The next morning Mr. Antrim and his daughter meet Earp in the street, just as Fred is getting ready to leave town. Antrim apologizes to Fred for being rude to him, and offers Fred he opportunity to work with him if he wants to stay in town. Antrim's daughter also apologizes, and encourages Fred to stay. Fred says he'll think about it, and Antrim offers to buy breakfast for Fred and Marshall Earp. Earp says he has an errand to run but he'll join them.
