Barbara Parkins, in a very early role, and yes, looking a bit like Annette Funicello, plays Beaver's coolest of cool babysitter. Amazing!
It's one of those "you're too young to be left alone --even though you are old enough to be left alone..." episodes, best written by Dick Conway. Ward and June are stepping out for the evening, Wally has a date and Beave cannot be left by himself. Enter Judy (played by Parkins), who is one of the rarest baby sitters to grace tv screens at the time, perhaps in the history of tv sitcoms. A hero of heroes.
The awkwardness of it all finds Beaver bragging to Gilbert and Richard how he could be left home all alone --and then playing hide the babysitter with Judy. A very clever story, and Judy is priceless, if not the saving grace for Beaver's pre-teen ego. You just have to watch this all play out. It's terrific.
Applause for Barbara Parkins, who within a few years would co-star on PEYTON PLACE (in over 500 episodes), and then picked to star in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. Do not miss that film and her performance.
About as good as it gets; excellent writing, directing and acting. SEASON 5 EPISODE 2 remastered. Get the dvd box set for this special episode.
