- Ward and June have gone out visiting for the day. Instead of going with them, Beaver, deciding to stay home, is allowed to invite Gilbert and Alan over. For fun, Gilbert suggests to Beaver and Alan that they make prank telephone calls, which Beaver thinks they're too old to do. But when they see his name in the newspaper, they decide to make a long distance call to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles to speak to Don Drysdale. Alan suggests that the three of them put up the collective money for the long distance call to satisfy Beaver's concern about his father being angry about the long distance charges. In total, they have just over a dollar, which they figure is plenty of money. After a long, long, long, long wait while he finishes his shower, they do manage to speak to Drysdale, about which they are excited. Their excitement turns to panic when they learn from the operator that the call actually costs close to $10. They figure that they have at least a couple of weeks before the telephone bill arrives, when they hope to have raised the money. Until then, they make a pact not to talk about the telephone call to anyone so as not to anger Beaver's father. But can the three keep the pact, especially when it is about something so exciting?—Huggo
