Owny, a boy growing into a man, wants to prove his brother Jack wrong that there's nothing more important than money. When he sees his brother's partner drop their heist into a well, he decides this may be how he can turn his life around.
Owny O'Reilly is an older boy with no oversight wanting to be a man. When he draws a gun on Timmo to force him to serve him whiskey, Johnny takes the gun away and sends the boy packing but returns the gun. Troop and Johnny are on watch for two men one of which is Owny's brother who held up a stage. They wound one man but Owny's brother escapes. The wounded man is able to ditch the gold into a well as Owny watches. Troop arrests the man but can't hold him due to lack of evidence. Owny recovers the money from the well and hides it. The next day Owny apologizes to Johnny and leading Johnny to convince Lily to give Owny a job. She is resistant but Owny turns out to be a good worker and responds to her kindness. When the two men try to recover the gold, they find it missing causing a rift. They hear Owny and discover he has the money. Owny's brother is killed and the survivor must face Troop and Johnny who have trailed Owny.—Anonymous
