A rancher wants more grazing land than he is entitled to so Dan puts a stop to it. When he then tries to buy off Lily by selling her a horse and carriage, an accident occurs involving the horse he was trying to sell, who must be put down.
Rancher Tracy McNeil wants additional grazing land he not entitled to forcing Marshal Troop to stop him. He has an expensive trotter he decides to sell Lily cheap to entice her to persuade Troop to change his mind but Lily refuses. An old sheep herder brings his dog fatally injured by a bear to Laramie for treatment. In Laramie a dog startles McNeil's trotter causing a runaway accident in which the horse breaks its leg. McNeil forces the vet to leave the sheep dog to tend his horse. Everyone feels the horse should be put down but he stables him. That night the vet hears the herder's sheep bells as the horse is shot. Troop goes after the herder but runs into McNeil who tries to kill Troop and blame it on the herder. He wants a new marshal.—Anonymous
