Charlotte d'Amboise in Law & Order (1990)

Factual errors

Civilian helicopters rarely can be used for transportation from military installations. The episode uses the excuse that a general needed to fly from McGuire in Central New Jersey to the United Nations. A military general would have used a military helicopter and for a two-hour trip would have more likely been driven into the city as helicopter use would be expensive.
Drug trafficking from a foreign nation to a US military installation would be under the purview of the US Army Criminal Investigative Division (CID), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or the FBI. The local police's authority would be solely any possible involvement in the murders, as the drug trafficking was both interstate AND international.
McCoy says he's thinking of offering Mrs. Wyman a sentence of 5-15 years in prison if she pleads guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree. However as a class A-I felony first degree possession carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in prison, even for first-time offenders. The only way McCoy could give her a minimum sentence of five years is if he pleads her down to criminal possession in the second degree, which is a class A-II felony and carries a sentence of 3-8 1/3 years for first time offenders, though since Mrs. Wyman smuggled more than eight ounces of cocaine that would preclude a plea to second degree possession.

Revealing mistakes

The flag in the Colombian consulate is upside down, with the red stripe on top and the yellow stripe on the bottom.
The Army uniforms worn by the major have many errors: (1) His major's leaves are silver instead of bronze (indicating Lt. Colonel not Major). (2) The clusters are in the middle of his uniform epaulets rather than on the end, where they belong, (3) He has no branch insignia (Infantry, Artillery, etc.) on his lapels. (4) He has no "U.S." insignia on his lapels. Instead, he has some unrecognizable insignia. (5) In one scene, he wears a cap without a gold officer's chinstrap and gold visor insignia that was crudely glued on. It appears to be an enlisted cap that was inexpertly converted to be an officer's cap. (6) He wears a raincoat in the same scene and with no rank insignia on his shoulders. (7) He wears some unrecognizable badge above his right uniform pocket - the Army wears such badges in the middle of the pocket, except for women's uniforms.
The detectives were sent to "Fort Evans, NJ". First there is no "Fort Evans" in New Jersey (the location would be Fort Dix, which is adjacent to McGuire AFB, which is also mentioned in the episode). Second there is prominent aircraft noise in the background of the scenes set at the fictional "Fort Evans".

Fort Evans/Dix is a training base with only a few helipads and no runway. While McGuire does have a runway, it is far enough from most of Fort Dix for the apron and runway noises not be commonly heard.
